Emory Giving Societies

A Shared Commitment

Gifts to Emory do more than support programs: They support people. People who are learning, healing, and pushing knowledge forward. Thanks to donors, students are thriving, patients are receiving life-changing care, and researchers are opening new paths of discovery.

To honor this generosity, Emory welcomes donors into three giving societies: the Judson C. Ward Consecutive Giving Society, the Wise Heart Society, and the 1836 Society.

These societies and their members—alumni, families, patients, and friends—care deeply about Emory’s future. Whether you’re giving for the first time or have supported Emory for decades, there’s a place for you here.

Judson C. Ward Consecutive Giving Society

Judson C. Ward 33C 36G was part of the Emory community for more than 80 years as a student, teacher, dean, donor, and friend. His 42 consecutive years of giving reflected a deep and lasting commitment to the place he loved. In his honor, the Judson C. Ward Consecutive Giving Society recognizes donors who show their dedication through consistent annual giving. All donors with at least two consecutive years of giving are welcomed into the society. Special recognition begins at the five-year milestone.

Wise Heart Society

Inspired by Emory’s motto—the wise heart seeks knowledge—the Wise Heart Society recognizes donors whose leadership gifts help advance Emory's mission. This community honors those who give a cumulative total of $1,000 or more each year to Emory. Graduates from the past 10 years are welcomed into the society with cumulative gifts of $500 or more.

The society includes distinct levels of giving:

  • Founders / $1,000 – $2,499
  • Mentors / $2,500 – $4,999
  • Pioneers / $5,000 – $9,999
  • Innovators / $10,000 – $24,999
  • Visionaries / $25,000+

1836 Society

Named for the year Emory was founded, the 1836 Society honors individuals who strengthen Emory’s future through planned giving. Members make a lasting impact by including Emory in their wills, trusts, or other estate plans—no minimum gift amount required. Today, more than 1,000 members are helping ensure that Emory continues to lead in education, research, and care for generations to come.

A Community That Celebrates Together

Members of Emory’s giving societies come together throughout the year to connect and honor the impact of their shared commitment.

Annual traditions include a special event during Homecoming and Family Weekend, the 1836 Society Luncheon, the 40+ Year Consecutive Giving Celebration, and exclusive receptions for members of the Wise Heart Society. These gatherings honor the generosity and enduring dedication of donors who help shape Emory’s future.
